Commissioned by the Queens Museum of Art for the exhibition CORONA PLAZA, Center of Everywhere, MurosDistópicos/DystopicWalls is a site-specific installation project that represents the actual physical division at the USA-Mexican border. Though the project treats particularly current immigration issues in the US, it also makes reference to other “walls” that have divided peoples, nations, and cultures throughout world history. The work also relates to the transnational exodus of people across countries and continents while evoking the relationship between the industrial North and the underdeveloped South. The installations and public collaborations will offer the physicality of eco-socio-cultural divides that pertain to the issues of separation, legalization, and adaptation by migrant peoples. The project involves a series of workshops for the public and an exhibition at Queens Museum of Art. |
