Video Installation, 2010
Flat screen monitors (15”) with DVD players, headphones, loop videos, dimensions vary.

Description:

Created specifically for the AriZONA Exhibition, “CIEGASORDOMUDA” is a single channel, 2 video monitor installation that explores the recent involvement of Shakira, a popular Colombian singer, to oppose the signing of Arizona’s Immigration Law. One monitor displays the singer’s interviews and appearances mixed with one of her older music videos (when she was a brunette) while the other, using GPS Google Technology, tracks the US-Mexican border with voice over of Arizona’s governor, Janet Brewer, as she signed the bill. In general, “CIEGASORDAMUDA” treats themes of fame, misplacement, and incongruence in terms of the political exploitation of a celebrity figure and immigration in the United States.
